AIM Initiative

 The purpose of the AIM Initiative is to invite young people from other schools to engage in an enriching and rewarding experience so as to:

  • Advocate for the rights of intellectual disability
  • Immerse themselves within a community that is enriched by intellectual disability
  • Be called to Mission to the marginalised and the disadvantaged, in an empathetic and respectful way.

Schedule

9.30am Arrival at St Edmund’s. Mission Session – what is our purpose and call when it comes to attending to the needs of all within our community?

10.50am Morning Tea

11.20am Immersion Session One: Investigating disability

12.20pm Immersion Session Two: with all visiting students integrated into their Buddy Class

1.20pm Immersion Session Three: lunch with St Edmund’s Buddy Class

1.50pm Advocacy Session – how to bring about awareness, impact and change that benefits those with intellectual disability?

2.30pm End of day

 As an EREA School, St Edmund’s aligns itself to the Touchstones of Gospel Spirituality, Liberating Education, Inclusive Community, and Justice and Solidarity. Aspects of these Touchstones will be referenced within each session. This will help scaffold the meaning and context for the AIM Initiative, and how it supports and celebrates the many gifts and talents of our students.
