In line with our focus on a smooth transition to high school, our Stage 3 (Year 5/6) class follows a high school timetable, allowing students to experience a dynamic and engaging curriculum delivered by our dedicated and qualified teaching staff.
The core subjects that these students explore include English, Mathematics, PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education), Creative Arts, and an Integrated Unit that combines the Stage 3 Science and Technology and HSIE (Human Society and Its Environment) syllabuses. Additionally, students participate in school-based courses in Religious Education and Pastoral Care.
In Literacy lessons, students are placed into small groups based on assessments conducted early in the year, allowing for targeted instruction that addresses their individual language and literacy needs. These groups are flexible and can change as students progress. The focus is on explicit instruction and plenty of opportunities for practice, helping students build their confidence and skills in reading and spelling. Students also explore a range of literature through our ‘Shared Reading’ sessions, which connect to the themes being studied in the Integrated Units.
Mathematics lessons start with engaging whole-class activities to introduce the day’s focus, followed by smaller group work where students can practice key concepts using hands-on materials and worksheets. To reinforce their learning, students also complete online activities on Mathletics, a tool designed to enhance their mathematical skills in an interactive way.
The Integrated Unit brings together History, Geography, and Science and Technology, aligning with the upcoming new NESA syllabuses. In this program, students delve into topics such as cultural diversity within our school community, environmental sustainability, and the impact of human activity on the world around us.
